The Montessori goal is to stimulate each child’s innate curiosity and to
instill in them the desire to learn so they may derive satisfaction from their
accomplishments and become self-motivated to increase their knowledge.
At CHM, your child will participate in a well planned program in which the
Montessori philosophy is incorporated into all activities of the day. Typically,
the daily program will include structured learning periods, active play periods,
and self-initiated discovery periods. Well-trained and concerned staff will
be with your child to help him/her learn and grow.
CHM programs are divided into the following groups:
Curriculum / Developmental Goals
Teachers create lesson plans based upon developmental objectives for each age
group. Every child is monitored for progress in the areas of physical, cognitive,
emotional and social development.
Classroom Enrichment
Art projects are undertaken regularly, with a focus on art as a process and
not the product. Activities include painting, drawing, collage projects, etc.
“Growing with Music” a developmental musical program, is held
every Thursday morning in the Preschool Room. Other special guests include storytellers,
puppet shows, musicians, slides from travels and docents from Como Zoo. Parents
who are interested in sharing their special talents are also invited to do so.

Outdoor Play
Outdoor play is a special part of the child’s day at CHM. Fresh air and
exercise are important to a child’s health and to our curriculum. Through
exercise, children use their large muscles and develop strong bodies. We go
outside every day that weather permits.
Parent Involvement
We encourage parents to visit the center, participate in special events and
share information in the classroom whenever possible. Events for both parents
and children are held throughout the year, and may include family dinners, seasonal
holiday parties, family picnics, open house or ice cream social.

“Our care of the children should be governed not by the desire to 'make
them learn things', but by the endeavor always to keep burning within them the
light which is called intelligence.” – Maria Montessori
