The Infant program is broken into two age groups: Younger Infants and Older Infants.
At CHM, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for babies to grow and learn.
The curriculum of our infant program is based on providing the infants with
opportunities to gain independence skills as opportunities naturally arise.
We do this in several ways:
|
| • |
We encourage independence in movement by providing many opportunities
for children to develop their motor skills. For example, we give children
tummy time starting at a young age, to develop the muscle groups which are
the foundation for learning to crawl and walk. We provide materials that
will entice their crawling, like balls and other objects that can roll just
out of reach. As children master crawling and start to pull up on things,
we provide materials that are safe and the right height to practice these
new skills without being stopped or assisted by an adult. |
| • |
We work closely with parents to ensure a smooth transition from bottle/breast
feeding through to solids and finger foods. We encourage practice with self-feeding
through use of spoons, drinking from a cup and assisting with finger foods. |
| • |
We work with the infants to help develop self-calming skills |
|
We provide infants with a wide variety of activities and experiences that
will enable them to develop new skills and learn more about their world. Some
examples include our Rattle Corner, Reaching Center and Manipulative/Sensory
Area.
As a relationship of trust is critical, we take care to establish a good working
relationship between parents and staff. We provide daily notes for each child,
so you know how your child’s day went, their mood, eating, sleeping and
elimination patterns and what activities your child enjoyed.
